Miao Nationality’s New Year
Miao Nationality’s New Year is the most important festival for Miao people around China. The celebration day is different in different places. The main activities during the festival are playing drums, Suona, Lusheng and other ethic musical instruments, dancing in Miao style, racing horse, bull fighting, antiphonal folk singing, climbing pole performance and so on.
Place: southeast Guizhou and other Miao communities in China
Time: 1st December to 15th December in Chinese lunar calendar
Lusheng Festival
Lusheng is a special folk musical instrument made of bamboo Miao people originally. Playing Lusheng and dancing are the major activities during the Lushang Festival.
Place: Kuili, Majiang, Dazhai, Leishan and Zhouxi of Guizhou province
Time: 18th December to 20th December in Chinese lunar calendar
Slope Climbing Festival
During the festival, young men and women will gather in Xianglu Hill in Kaili, singing and climbing. The one climbs to the hill top first will be hero.

Zhai Zhang Festival
It is the most solemn worship ceremony of all Miao people, usually held in middle of September in Chinese lunar calendar. The cerebration includes killing cows as sacrifice, making drum by cattle hide, worship the drum and other series of religious rituals. Miao people belief that cattle hide-drum is the living place for ancestors and the symbol of blood and family.
