Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple Travel Guide

Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple is located in West Street, Licheng District, Quanzhou City.It was first built in Tang Dynasty 686 AD and with more than 1300 years history till now. Kaiyuan Temple is a important monument in China southeast coast and the largest Buddihist temple in Fujian Province.

Kaiyuan Temple from north to south is 260 meters, from east to west is 300 meters; it covers an area of 78000 square meters, now existing construction is only one or two tenth of the original. The heyday was Song and Ming Dynasty, at that period, there were 120 constructions and more than 1000 monks in the temple.

Now, the main construction in Kaiyuan Temple include: Tianwang Hall, Bai Pavilion, Daxiongbaodian Hall (main hall), Ziyun Towers (East and West Towers), Sangpeng Monument, Ganlu Altar and Depositarry of Buddhist Texts, etc.
